You have heard all the catch phrases on television and radio about making sure your carpet cleaner does not take you to the cleaners. There have been all too many horror stories of unethical carpet cleaning business who take advantage of trusting consumers. They offer low advertised specials, but when the work is done they refuse to honor the low price, perform shoddy work, or both.

The carpet cleaning industry is not exempt from the bait and switch tactics that can be seen in many industries. Of course this does not mean that you will not be able to find and honest carpet cleaner. How do you determine who which are the right companies with which to do business? The carpet cleaning industry is doing a lot to clean up these shady operators to eliminate poor quality workmanship and unethical business practices. One step in the right direction is the creation of the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), a non-profit organization which trains and certifies carpet cleaners that are able to meet a high level of quality standards and agree to operate by ethical business standards.
